Playing in the backcourt middens was a right of passage for generations of tenement weans in Glasgow. Despite the muck, with a little imagination, the toppled bins could become anything from a shop to a ship, a fairytale castle to a Medieval fort.
These wee ones, in an un-named Glasgow backcourt, seem to be having fun. Even better, mum could keep an eye on their antics from the kitchen window, shouting down to them when it was time to come in for their tea.
